For Families: Nutrition Services

In all aspects of CDI/CDC food program, our staff are role models and set an example to support a healthy environment with a focus on the well being of the children.

At CDI/CDC we provide a healthy environment for children and staff by setting a high standard for the quality of food served through participation in the Child Care Food Program, by facilitating physical activity daily, and by integrating Nutrition/Health Education in our curriculum for the children, families and staff.

CDI/CDC has degreed nutritionists and Registered Dietitians on staff who plan menus for the centers with good nutrition and cultural sensitivities in mind. Children with specific health and/or dietary requirements are accommodated. Families today face nutritional challenges, so the nutrition staff has established guidelines for centers that build a “healthy” environment for the children and the staff. That environment includes a foundation for developing a positive attitude toward food, understanding the importance of good nutrition, forming healthy eating habits, and the importance of daily exercise.

Teachers incorporate into the program nutritional and fun cooking activities that enhance the curriculum and assist the children make healthy choices in their daily lives. In addition, both staff and families are offered wellness education that includes best practices in food choices as well as practices for an active life.

Breakfast, snack and lunches are provided according to each site plan. In a few cases, parents may be asked to provide lunch during the summer or other vacation periods. CDI/CDC participates in the Child Care Food Program, receiving some reimbursement from the federal and state government for food service and administration. CDI/CDC maintains a full kitchen at each site, adding to the warm and “home-like” environment that we have created for the children. All meals and snacks are served family-style to encourage children to build on their communication and motor skills. With meal service like home, children have the opportunity to try a variety of new foods and tastes.

We are like part of your family.
